The first step is always the hardest.

Financial problems can happen to anyone. But it only takes a moment of courage to call and ask for help. We are here for that help.

When Jane* arrived for her appointment in my office, you could see her face fighting raw emotion with eyes barely holding back a flood of tears. I pulled her chair back and as she sat in my chair the levee breached releasing the frustration of fighting a losing financial battle. It’s a story that can happen to anyone, has happened to so many. An unforgiving illness, mounting medical bills, divorce, a lost job, and lost dreams. Creditors who give little thought or care to your unique struggles. But like Jane, you can take that first step down the road to peace of mind.

The first brave step to gaining financial peace of mind is to call and set up an appointment with an experienced bankruptcy attorney. At the initial consultation, we will get to visit and I will get to learn about you, your family, and your financial situation. So how about I tell you about me first.

My name is Kathryn Wiley but most people call me “Kat”.  I have been a bankruptcy attorney for over 11 years.  I get to visit with people and help them get a better understanding of their bankruptcy options.

Over the years I have gotten to visit with numerous potential clients from every walk of life.  Clients like Jane who was just trying to pick up the pieces of their life after suffering through a traumatic illness and divorce.  Jane’s situation struck a cord with me because at the time I was also going through a divorce so I understood the heartache and the uncertainty ahead. I was lucky enough to have support during that difficult time. I now have the opportunity to pay that support forward.  I am incredibly lucky to be able to help people like Jane during some of the most difficult times of their lives.

I have been around the legal profession my whole life.  My father, older sister, and older brother are all attorneys.  Growing up I got to witness how hard my father worked to help so many people in our small community make their lives better.  So when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, all I knew was I wanted to help people.  Since I saw that attorneys were able to do that I decided to go to law school.

I live in New Iberia and work in Lafayette.  I have a wonderful husband and two precious little girls.  I enjoy playing make believe, card games, board games, watching movies, and just swinging in the breeze with my girls.

My oldest little girl loves math.  Growing up I never enjoyed math so it is odd that I chose an area of the law that requires me to do math everyday.  However, our math has a purpose.  We are not solving for X.  We are solving and saving for U!

If you have found yourself unable to pay your monthly bills or just worried about your finances.  I would like to sit down with you and listen to your situation, we can then discuss whether bankruptcy may be right for you and if so which bankruptcy would be best for you.

At the end of the consultation, most people are just relieved to talk to someone and gain some knowledge.  If you would like to set up a free initial consultation, please give us a call.
